How to dose Rid-X Septic Tank Treatment Pods (Septi-Pacs)
Step 1
Take one pod
One 3.2 oz pod is one month, for tanks of 700 to 1,500 gallons.
Step 2
Drop it in and flush
The whole pod goes into the toilet bowl, then flush.
Step 3
Mark the month
Repeat once a month, on a date you will remember.
What it does
One pouch a month, and when to flush it
If your house runs on a septic tank, these pods shrink the monthly treatment to a single small job. Each pod is a 3.2 oz pouch, and one pouch is one month's dose. You drop it in the bowl, flush, and write the date down. The bag calls them Septi-Pacs, so you may see both names on the shelf.
Before you buy, know your tank size. The bag writes one pouch a month for tanks between 700 and 1500 gallons. Rid-X says each pouch carries bacteria and enzymes, with the enzymes starting at once and the bacteria working on afterward. The maker also says the pods belong alongside occasional pumping, and we agree with that part plainly: no pouch empties a tank.
- One 3.2 oz pouch is one monthly dose
- Dose written for septic tanks of 700 to 1500 gallons
- No scoop and no scale: the pouch goes in whole
- Sold as a 1-month, 6-month or 12-month supply
- Septi-Pacs is the name printed on the bag
- Bacteria and enzymes inside, in the maker's description
The septic tank treatment shelf holds 3 more products beside the Septic Tank Treatment Pods (Septi-Pacs), and every one belongs to the Rid-X selection.
Directions and best results
- Confirm that your septic tank holds somewhere between 700 and 1500 gallons.
- Pick a time when nobody will run water in the house for some hours.
- Drop one whole pouch in the toilet bowl, then flush.
- Repeat once a month, on the same date each month if that helps you remember.
For best results
- Flush the pouch at bedtime or as you head out for the day, which is what the bag advises.
- Shelve the bag where children and pets cannot get to it, and follow the directions printed on it.
- A monthly pouch does not replace inspection and pumping. See our pumping guide for a schedule.

Safety and sources
A monthly dose does not take the place of inspection and pumping. The EPA asks for a professional inspection of a household system at least every three years, and its septic questions page does not recommend additives. Keep the pack sealed and out of reach of children and pets.
Questions
About Rid-X Septic Tank Treatment Pods (Septi-Pacs)
How many Rid-X pods do you use in a month?
One. Each 3.2 oz pouch is a month's dose, and the bag sizes that dose for septic tanks of 700 to 1,500 gallons. At that rate the 6-month supply covers half a year and the 12-month box holds 12. A second pod in the same month is not part of the directions.
Do you open a Rid-X pod before you flush it?
No. The pouch goes into the toilet bowl whole, and then you flush. Pick it up with dry hands, as you would a laundry packet, and drop it in when nobody will run water for a while, at bedtime for instance.
Are Rid-X pods the same as Septi-Pacs?
Yes. Septi-Pacs is the name printed on the bag, and pods is the word the product descriptions use. Either way you get dissolvable 3.2 oz pouches, one a month, flushed whole. The Washington State Department of Health's additive list uses the Septi-Pacs name as well.
