Pod, powder or pour: which suits your house?

Every Rid-X product on this shelf asks the same thing of you: one dose a month, put into a toilet and flushed. The difference is how that dose gets to your hand. A pod comes already counted, a 3.2 oz pouch you drop in whole. Powder means measuring 9.8 oz out of a bigger pack, half of one pack in the 12-month box. Platinum and Professional Platinum are liquids, and you pour the amount marked on the bottle.

Pick by the habit you can keep and by the size of your tank. The Septi-Pacs bag writes its pouch for tanks between 700 and 1,500 gallons, and the powder and Platinum name 1,500 gallons as their upper limit. If the dose passes between several people in your house, a whole pouch is the hardest form to get wrong. A longer supply only means fewer orders. Whichever box you keep, the tank still needs inspection and a pump-out on its own calendar, set out in our pumping schedule.

Questions

About Rid-X septic tank treatment

What size septic tank do you need for one Rid-X dose?

On the back of the Septi-Pacs bag, one pouch is a month's dose for a tank of 700 to 1,500 gallons. For monthly maintenance, the pods, powder and Platinum descriptions all stop at 1,500 gallons. None of the packs we read gives a dose for a larger tank, so the label and your septic professional are the places to ask.

Can you use Rid-X in an aerobic septic system?

Rid-X says its septic products are made for aerobic and anaerobic systems alike. If yours runs on pumps or float switches, as many alternative systems do, the EPA's septic care page asks for inspection more often, generally once a year. Ask the company that services it what it allows before you add anything.

Can you use Rid-X with a garbage disposal?

The Rid-X packs we read say nothing about disposals. The disposal is the part the agencies write about. Kitchen scraps digest slowly and settle as extra sludge and scum, the EPA's septic questions page explains, which brings the next pump-out closer. The University of Minnesota's septic program goes further and advises against disposals on septic systems.

Can you find Rid-X on Washington State's septic additive list?

Yes, several Rid-X septic products are. The Washington State Department of Health's list from December 2024 names Septi-Pacs, Concentrated Powder Pacs and a Platinum product from the line, with others. Being listed means the state judged the ingredients unlikely to cause harm. The department does not review whether a product works, and it says the list is no recommendation.
